- 3 teaspoons cardamom

- 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa (optional, this simply adds a nice dark color for the filling)
- ¼ cup apple butter
Cake ――
- 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
-
1 ½ cups Wood’s maple sugar
- ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons cardamom
-
2 tablespoons Wood’s Apple Spice maple syrup
- 3 large eggs, room temperature
- ¾ cup whole milk greek yogurt, room temperature
- 1 ¼ cup whole milk, room temperature
- 3 ¾ cup flour
Drizzle ――
-
½ cup powdered sugar
-
2 tablespoons Wood’s Apple Spice maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Pinch of sea salt
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9" x 13" pan
Topping Time: Whisk together sugar, salt, flour, and cardamom. Stir in melted butter until it's all mixed up. Set aside.
Fabulous Filling: Put the apple butter off to the side for now. Mix brown sugar, cardamom, cinnamon, and optional cocoa powder. Set aside.
Cake Batter Bliss: In a large bowl, beat butter, salt, sugars, maple syrup, and baking powder until smooth and creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each.
Mix It Up: In a separate bowl, whisk together greek yogurt and milk. Don't worry about lumps!
Combine: Gradually add the flour and milk mixture to the butter mixture by alternating a little of each until gently mixed in.
Layer & Swirl: Spread half the batter into the pan. Sprinkle the filling evenly on top. Gently spread the apple butter evenly over the filling. Add the rest of the batter, then gently swirl the filling with a knife for a marbled effect.
Top It Off: Sprinkle the topping over the batter.
Bake Away: Bake until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean—about 55-60 minutes.
- Make That Drizzle: Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and sea salt until smooth. Set aside.
- Cool & Enjoy: Let it cool for 30 minutes. Drizzle the icing on top and then dig in straight from the pan!
