Maple Churro Chex Mix (Sweet Cinnamon Chex Snack with Maple Sugar)
If a churro and a snack mix had a delicious little baby, it would be this: Churro Chex. It’s crunchy, buttery, cinnamon-sweet, and wildly good at “accidentally” vanishing from the bowl.
This version gets its cozy, caramel-like sweetness from Wood’s Vermont Maple Sugar, which makes the whole thing taste warmer and more craveable than regular cinnamon sugar. It’s the kind of snack that makes you walk by the kitchen, grab “just a handful,” and then… the bowl is suddenly empty.
Why Maple Sugar Makes It Taste Like Real Churros
Classic churro flavor is all about cinnamon + sweet + that slightly caramelized, fried-dough vibe. We’re not frying anything here (bless), but maple sugar gets you surprisingly close because it brings that toasted, caramel depth that plain white sugar just doesn’t have.
- Warmer sweetness that tastes a little “cooked” in the best way
- Better balance with cinnamon so it doesn’t taste one-note
- Extra cozy flavor that turns cereal into “why is this so good?”
In short: Wood’s Vermont Maple Sugar is the difference between “snack mix” and “hide this from the family.”
The Butter Mixture: Where the Magic Happens
You melt the butter, then stir in maple sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla—aka the lineup of ingredients that make your house smell like a cinnamon candle with a better personality.
When that buttery goodness coats the Chex and bakes low and slow, it creates a crisp, lightly caramelized coating that clings to every little square like it’s trying to win an award.
Why the Low Oven Temp Matters
Baking at 250°F for an hour isn’t being dramatic—it’s how you get:
- maximum crunch
- even coating
- no soggy cereal sadness
And mixing every 15 minutes ensures every piece gets that perfect churro-ish coat instead of one corner of the pan becoming the “butter lake district.”
When to Make Churro Chex (Answer: Yes)
This snack is perfect for:
- holiday tins and cookie trays (because not everything needs to be a cookie)
- game day and parties
- movie nights (warning: you’ll need a double batch)
- road trips and lunchbox treats
- “I need something sweet but I don’t want to bake-bake” days
Make It Your Own (Optional Fun)
- Add a pinch of salt at the end for that sweet-salty “wow.”
- Toss in mini pretzels after baking for extra crunch.
- Add chocolate chips only after it’s fully cooled (unless you want accidental chocolate cement, which is… still edible).
